Mass Appeal did Big L justice with this one. Guest appearances on point. Production on point. Really took me back to what I consider the golden era. Most of L's bars I've heard before, however it still sounds refreshing to hear one of the masters again. Favorite song: U ain't Got a Chance
I wasn't old enough to enjoy Big L while he was alive but this album definitely took me back a couple of decades, back when the lyrics were impactful. Great features and a couple of songs that will be in my rotation.
Album goes crazy! Never thought I'd hear Big L, Mac, Nas, and Hov all on one album. Major props on the release, RIP Big L and Mac Miller šš½šš
Hiphopās actually getting deprived of this kind of raw rap and I just love that its getting some love again. Big 5 star from me and this project really has me looking forward to seeing what he works on next. Amazing š
I was excited for this release having Big L in my top 3 DOA MC's and it's safe to say this project exceeded my expectations. I think it's an awesome contribution to L's legacy as it gave me goosebumps on more occasions. I have this on repeat as we speakš„ rest in peace L you won't be forgottenšš„šŖ¦
This album was very poorly executed. As a genuine hip hop fan, these are all tracks that I've already heard in their original format. This project seems more like a money grab, rather then an upholding of his legacy. The production is terrible, as it seems like they just threw his verses on top of shitty YouTube beats.
Many posthumous releases are seldom as good as regular ones. Without the artists Input, it's very hard to match the same energy. The spirit of the music inherently changes. I feel like this project is as solid as they come. It doesn't try to do too much, Big L's legendary delivery still hits hard even in this modern era. His estate tastefully selected modern acts that would add to his greatness.
Congrats @YesTalik! You're the lucky winner of this week's contest. Be on the lookout, as our team will reach out to you by email with details of your prize.
Honestly Itās poorly refined. Big L is really a legend that should be in the top 20 category at LEAST. Itās clear we have his grimy and reality like lyrics on this album, but the album itself is HIGHLY inconsistent. Songs like 7 Minute Freestyle are beyond horribly mixed. Also, Forever is something Big L would have not done. Itās too sweet for his grimy and ominous music, and the Mac Miller feature feels weird considering these two never met. Most of these tracks have been already heard of yet refined and taken down notches. I donāt know, it feels like a cash grab. 5/10
Big Lās Harlemās Finest: Return of the King is a solid project that reminds you why his name still carries weight in hip hop. The bars are sharp, the flow is vintage L, and the beats capture that gritty Harlem sound without feeling outdated. Some tracks hit harder than others, but overall itās a dope listen that blends nostalgia with real lyricism. Definitely a 4-star project for true heads who miss that raw New York energy.
